My Story
There are currently 2,820 children waiting for adoption right now.
Adoption Matters is a Charity that helps so many children and families through support financially and providing emotional stability.
It's important to note that adoption is a complex and deeply personal process that requires careful consideration, support, and often ongoing effort from all parties involved. While it can be incredibly rewarding, it also comes with unique challenges that families should be prepared to address.
Although adoption has never impacted me directly, I have seen first hand the work that this charity does and how it helps so many people. I have chosen to rasie money for this charity due to a recent announcement from the Government in the adoption sector which has caused major concern for all voluntary and regional adoption agencies.
All children in adoptive or kinship placements, were previously entitled to £5k each per annum of therapeutic intervention support via the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund. This support has various guises and helps children to recover from, and come to terms with, early loss, trauma and neglect. However they made an announcement in early April saying the fund would only be committed for one further year, along with constraints on the amount of funds available overall, and delayed timeframes to apply for funds relating to families that are facing difficult challenges with their child’s behaviours.
Children coming out of care require lifelong support to give them the best possible chance of living a good life and reaching their full potential. Without the right support, families are at risk of adoption placements breaking down, and children potentially ending up back in care.
Any donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated - Meg x
